| First topic message reminder :
Hi! My name is Michelle and I am a mother of two. I am really concerned about whether kids, especially mine should be watching Winx Club. My youngest daughter, who is 9, is constantly watching it online and on Nickelodeon and I do not like the messages this cartoon tells young girls. The show teaches that you always need to get revenge on people you don't like. Also the girls are so skinny and girls can start to feel that they need to look that way. My 18 year old daughter hasn't been eating and she's been throwing up and has anorexia because she says she wants to be skinny like the Winx. I am very worried about her and my younger daughter. The Winx always have boyfriends and I don't think its appropiate for my daughters to have boyfriends at their age. I srill need to take care of them. Their outfits are also too revealing and trashy and now my 9 year old daughter is going out and chasing after random boys and wearing revealing clothes because the Winx do it. My daughters are growing up too fast.

| I'm not concerned with it being Winx's style because there's no reason for it to not be possible to include different body types into an art style. That's just laziness. | |

| Then why couldn't their signature thing include diversity? It's not like including it would make them look the same as another show. Also someone's signature style can still be lazy. They can try and be as creative as they want but they couldn't have worked very hard on taking one body, copying it and pasting it onto everyone and simply changing the color, clothes and hair. Not only that, this signature style has harmful effects. | |

Also someone's signature style can still be lazy. They can try and be as creative as they want but they couldn't have worked very hard on taking one body, copying it and pasting it onto everyone and simply changing the color, clothes and hair. Not only that, this signature style has harmful effects. Because it' what the creator of the show wanted them to be. If the creator didn't want them to be different weights then let them be. Winx Club isn't a reflection of real life it's a reflection of someone's imagination. If that person doesn't want different body weights then leave them alone. You try creating a cartoon with characters that have different body weights. Of course it's easy to say "oh they can just make them different body weights." But have you done it yourself? It's a lot of hard work to do 2D animations let alone the original way they did it hand draw instead of computer generated. Winx Club has had that style for 10 years I don't see them changing it now. Majority of kids now the difference between fiction and reality. Why include different body weights to make it more non-fictional then fictional. Winx is a fun show for kids of all ages who are more interested in the magical aspect of the show rather than how the girls look. The show is about the magic not the body weight. Also children shouldn't really be watching as much tv as they do now if they are at that point in their life. When I was little I had a balance of playing outside and watching TV. It's up to the parents to monitor that and tell their child the difference between fiction and reality and to tell their children that all weights are beautiful. If parents can't do that....and don't go and say "oh it's the media's effect that they have on their kids and they can't do anything about it". They can do something about it and if it doesn't work then send their child to a psychologist and see if that will help. It's not only the media but the parents as well who need to step up to the plate and tell their children about this issue.

| The last thing I want to talk about in regards to this fictional show is comparisons between realistic and unrealistic body shapes. It's disgusting, and I get tired of hearing everyone argue about it.
Yes, the show is highly unrealistic, because that's the way cartoons are formatted. It's not suppose to be real. On the other hand, we humans are attempting to bring it to the real world. That's not good, unless you aren't trying to change the way you look.
Whenever I watched this show, I had no thoughts of how skinny they looked. 1. Because I'm not a girl. (Most of the guys looked like they were drawn to have actual male bodies) 2. It's a cartoon, I know how to differ between make believe and reality.
Somebody could easily develop a problem, on the matters of how they look. It's a sign of being obsessed with a show like this. An unhealthy one at that.
ConcernedParentMother, in the end, just do what you would do as a mother. If you don't want you kids to watch it, then don't. Or alternatively, you could watch the show with them and tell them about the reality of it all. I do feel sympathy for your situation if it's that serious. A show shouldn't be taken so seriously.

Other than that you are right about what ConcernedParentMother should do. You pretty much repeated what I said. |
