| I meant the written story, where the ball lasts for three days and there is a silver outfit that she wears (and later the gold one)...

| Oh right but I was making a point that Disney has their own looks for Cinderella in the parks maybe that's why she wore silver shoes? Now she wears light blue. However silver and gold slippers are only in the Grimm Version, Disney follows the original French Perrault version of the story where they are glass it's actually called Cinderella or The Little Glass Slipper (Cenderillion), aside from the similar Japanese story of Ye-Shin. In Germany it's called Aschenputtel meaning Little Ash Girl or Cinderella. The only original Grimm Fairytales Disney has done are Snow White, Princess and the Frog (which was based upon the Frog Prince and the Frog Princess) and Rapunzel, Sleeping Beauty only uses Briar Rose as an Alias for Aurora but the story came from Perrault originally, the others were vastly different. | |

| Actually neither of the tales is either Grimms or Perrault in origin, they come from the older background, mostly of Germanic legends, though mixed with the other backgrounds and one can argue that the Grimm version though later is more generic, as it was based on the folklore research, while Perrault was always aiming to be moral story for high class (Grimm's too, but yet it preserved much more legend layers ans symbolic in general). Anyway as far as I know the title comes from the word "cinder" - French "cendre" and so the name itself has no connection with the shoes whatsoever. In fact in tale pre-dating one You've mentioned, the shoe is velvet red with pearls, cause the material itself was not important, only that it was special and rich...
And Disney did not follow any of the stories, but only shallow them all and twist them terribly, strapping them of any left symbolism. So although they are pretty, they really have nothing to do with the tales of the same title from the old world and one should not confuse the real fairytale with Disney production, cause each of them served different purpose and sends different message.
[as for sleeping beauty, that one comes from two older tales known to Perrault and yes it varies a lot from the best known version, cause there the princess is raped by the prince/king and felt alone, being was awaken by the birth of her children, or by them sucking her finger- obviously not the version for royals, or kids to be heard, so it was changed by both Perrault (and Grimms). Though the brothers were actually looking for connection with the old legend of Brunhilde, which is probably true, though maybe more accurate for the story of glass mountain, as in some variations of it, the girl is also said to be asleep, but also possible that the both fairytales have same origin just different vicissitudes]
Just to clear things out- You can alwasy count on me to give a long, boring lecture on legends and tales, at your service . | |

| Okay, but I said loosely based on never said it was whichever version it was, Also I think we should possibly start a thread pertaining to the classic fairytales now. | |

| well alright it will be in the books section, I think it might be best to do a compare contrast with the French and German Versions of 3 (Grimm's BATB is Summer/Winter Garden) a long with other Grimm ones and maybe some illustrations of my own. | |

| I'm ok with that ^^ though I'm not sure how much good comes from comparing only those two, as same Cinderella varies in about 700 tales... We'll see. | |

| i prefer the ruby shoes too allthough i like what happens in the musical wicked the shoes start out silver but then the wicked witch of the west ( elphaba) makes them ruby so that he sister the wicked with of the east can walk ( her sis starts out disabled) in my opinion it makes snece why elphaba want the shoes so badly cause there the only thing thats left of her sis | |

| That's an angle to think about in any version. However I chose to use the names from Oz the great and powerful prequel when i drew them on another site as Elphaba and Nessarose are completely different from Evanora and Theodora who started out as good witches but once they realized Oz wasn't being honest they turned horribly awful and closer to their more common known versions. Funny how only Locasta and Glinda were ever named though, at least until we learned of other good and wicked witches. | |
