Anime and Cartoon are diffrent right?

Hi guys, anime and Cartoon are diffrent right? Somehow people say anime is cartoon somehow...

(im not really into anime though, im into cartoon....)

I'm pretty sure they're different.

Anime is a Japanese animation show and cartoon is something like Winx Club, Family Guy, Adventure Time, The Simpsons etc.

Pretty much this. The main difference is the character design, this is the occidental style...

Most animes are based off manga, which is like a comic book, but drawn the oriental way. Also, cartoons are mainly dedicated to children, and anime is a whole new world. Picture a cartoon with a deep, interesting story. Heaven, if you ask me.

Manga is read left-to-right but for comics which is right-to-left. Manga and comics is also diffrent like anime and cartoons too.

Ok, im an anime fan, but rlly theres no difference.. animes can have the same type of animation style like cartoon.. i will just copy paste something

There is no difference, Anime is slang for Japanese animation and Cartoons is the English word for, well, cartoons.
People like to get pissy about this but there is no difference, you can have a "immature" looking Japanese animated TV series and a "mature" American animated TV series.
Even when speaking to my Japanese teacher if she asked what I did and I reply "Watched anime" (in Japanese of course) she always asks if I mean American anime or Japanese anime.

and i saw a pic of japanase dictionary book where it was written anime and under it it says cartoon.. Very Happy

welll let me tell you, that ignio (creator of winx club nvdr,) had his inspiration for WC by the anime Sailor moon. I, personally, think that WC is an anime, I even cosplay it, and I mostly don't see a difference between cartoons and anime. I just think that it is just the origin of it. If it is from japanese author, it is called anime, and everything outside japan originated is cartoon.... It is a silly split up, I know, but hey that's the way the world turns, unlogically. ps I'm also a anime fan (Ouran High School Host Club and The Wallflower are my fav... I like reverse harem the most) Ah, maybe another difference: There are 'genres' in anime, shounen, shoujo, seinen, ecchi, smut, adult, comedy, reverse harem, harem, mecha,shounen ai, boylove,... I'm not sure most cartoons have no genre If you tell me about Family guy, simpsons, batman the animated series, WC,.... they mostly are comedies with touches of all the kind of genres in it. while anime just has like 'it's about this, so you won't find an other genre in it'

I'm not sure about that last one though....

that's backwards, Manga is read right to left and Comics are read left to right. Also there's very little difference between the golden(late 30's-40's) and silver age (50's-'85) comics and the cartoons except maybe some color swaps with Filmation's Flash and Kid Flash cartoons. The comics didn't start being drastically different until '85 when we entered the Bronze Age after Supergirl and The Flash (Barry Allen and Kara Zor-El's) deaths, when the cartoons became more violent but still tame compared to the new dark comics

Also Anime is the Japanese word for all animation meaning cartoons are the same thing there. Cartoon is the generic term for animated picture. In other parts of the world we call Japanese animations anime and non-anime style shows cartoons.
