Concerns about Username Colors

First topic message reminder :

While I am all for having our forum have color, especially in our names, I wanted to get this question thrown out to everyone. To be completely honest, there's a plethora of many different colors on our forum. While it is fun to have our possible favorite color painted over your user name, there could be some issues. Some that I would consider are; what's significant about these colors on people? Are they entitled to something? Yes, some are entitlted to the responsibilities they are assigned to. But personally, when changing the color on your name can be doable by free will, it can feel overwhelming or atrocious.

Lemme break down what colors we have activated on our forum (you can see all of them at the bottom);
Rainbow (Administrator; closed group; very essential)
Orange (Moderators; closed group; essential)
Yellow (Super Moderators; closed group; essential)
Green (Stream Moderators; closed group; essential)
Blue (Specialists; Member group)
Light Blue (Season 5 Moderators; closed group)
Purple (Witches; Member group)
Pink (Fairies; Member group)
Red (Wizards; Member group)
Dark Purple (default for all members with no group defined)

Count 'em, 10 colors.

Now don't get me wrong guys; it is fine and dandy to have a diverse amount of color on our forum. However, when you get down to it, you may find yourself asking... is it a little too much? I wanna hear y'all's opinion on the matter. Should we decrease the amount of color names we have? Don't be afraid to think otherwise; if it's a problem, chances are, it can be a problem.

Personally, I would like to keep things simple, yet, enjoyable (and fair) to everybody. I'm also not a huge fan of the default color for members who are not destined to a group (Dark Purple), because it blends with almost every other Link or Topic title that has the same color. No offense to the Red color named people, but Red is an immensely powerful color. It could represent anything; most commonly as an Administrator. That's where I believe people can get confused, especially when they're new to the forum. However, I do like the fact that you can choose a color name to define yourself as a Fairy, Witch or Specialist (referring to the actual show we are dedicated to), and now a Wizard.

Lastly, I would just like to point out that this is simply my opinion and concern with the forum. You can agree or disagree with it; I am happy to hear your insight.

It's actually not my intention to use recurring characters as ranks because of a user name. (Again with the exception of Mods/Admins).

My initial plan was to have the Faculty of Alfea/Red/Fountain/Cloud Tower as the Admin. For those who are Banned, I would have used the Ancestral witches and the Trix. Razz

The ranking system we have now works effectively, and if it ain't broke don't fix it. Plus it'll get too complicated if we get ranks that people can change to and from easily.

^ Yeah. I guess it makes more sense that way... So you know that their a member of the staff. Only thing is that they won't get to advance to other fairy forms like Sirenix.

I'm ok with the colors just a bit mad about the auto Subscribing to a group because if you leave it you can't join it again

@Awesomesauce: Sirenix hasn't been uploaded yet and it's only the Admin who don't get ranks I think (TITANIC!! OMG IT'S LIKE MY FAVOURITE MOVIE!! I LOVE THE SONG MY HEART WILL GO ON THAT GOES WITH THE MOVIE!!!!! sad ending though...)

@Chocoroko: good Idea with the trips but banned people don't come on so how about if there reallly being mean or spamming they get moved to the Trix until they stop or get banned?

I don't care about the colors much, but I'm not crazy about the auto subbing to groups feature, I'd like to be able to choose.

I have to admit there is a lot of colours. People sometimes confuse me as an administrator too...Somehow my name changed to aqua Razz

I think red is the wrong colour for Wizards though, because as others said it's a powerful colour. The Witches/Fairies/Specialists colours don't bother me though, I think they are fine.

I think there are a bit too many ranks, and therefore, too many colors. There could only be 2 types of Moderators, the ones who have control over the whole forum, and the others, who are just responsible for a certain section. That way, Wizards could have either green or orange as their color (red is too strong for a "basic" rank, no offense intended), and the Administrator could have red (seeing BelieveInWinx in all of those flashy colors kinda hurts my eyes, to be honest).

Good idea Chocoroko. About us having a "Mod" name under or above our ranks. But anyways, maybe we can tell Jae about this, maybe suggest it to him Smile

And with the Red thing, maybe that should be Jae's color or maybe the mods color. The Wizards maybe should have Orange. Wink
