Nex is Like Riven...

I'm sick of hearing this -- and variations like "Nex is a copy of Riven," "he's just Riven," "he replaced Riven," "he's worse than Riven," etc. Riven's not a character type! If the fans can't find many differences between these two, they're not paying enough attention to Nex.

Plus, we barely know anything about him. The fans didn't even bother to get to know him before they judged him. Riven's treated like he's just misunderstood -- everyone feels sorry for him because of his tragic background story. What if Nex had a sad past, too?

Aside from Bloom, I've never seen so much hate for any character in this show. It's so over the top, it's almost funny. Not even the villains get this much flak!

Sometimes, I think the fanbase just likes hating him (and Bloom). They can't like him since he "took Nabu's place," so they exaggerate his bad moments and ignore or downplay his good ones (which he's had more of). He's judged more harshly than any other character.

I hope Rainbow knows what's happening and does something to endear Nex to the fanbase. This can't go on if he's supposed to stay with Aisha. The fans will never accept him like this.

(Sorry, I just needed to rant. I'm working on a fanfic about Nex, so he's very much on my mind right now.)

I know, right? I didn't even like Nabu in the first place. Nabu appeared for 35 episodes and suddenly he became the ideal boyfriend and he must be loved forever.

Riven is rebellious, tad impulsive, loyal, daring, a loner, jealous, crude humor, and problematic at his emotions.

Although Nex shares the loyalty, crude humor, and the daring senses Riven has, Nex is actually caring, shy, friendly, flirtatious, brave, and obviously doesn't start arguments.

It annoys me as well how fans compare him to Riven while they both have their distinctive personalities. For one, I like Nex more than Nabu and Roy. Roy just seemed so bland I cry dry tears when I see him. Nabu's love to Aisha was so rushed I cringed when they wanted to marry. ~~Let's not remind ourselves how Daphne and Thoren's weddings are more rushed as hell, as well.~~

I liked Nabu, but it does bother me, too, that the fans are so blindly loyal to him. He was perfect in every way. He was the perfect boyfriend for Aisha. (Of course he was. He was the only boyfriend she had until now.) He was just sooooo wonderful. Roll Eyes

Honestly, their relationship was very rushed and very unrealistic. It was adorable, but they were just mushy-gushy as Bloom and Sky are. I think if Nabu had lived, and he and Aisha were still acting the way they did in season four, the fanbase would be sick of them by now. The only reason they're so enamored with them is because Nabu died, and they miss him.

Exactly! I'm not saying they're not similar at all, but not enough to justify this "he's a copy of Riven" nonsense. They have completely opposite personalities, and Nex isn't argumentative and desperate for control like Riven was.

The other thing that bothers me is while everyone blames Riven's issues on bad writing and a sad past, Nex's negative traits are entirely his fault. It's just who he is. He's a jerk. Like I said, the fans didn't bother to get to know him before they judged him.

Roy was so boring. I don't understand why the fans take him or his "relationship" with Aisha seriously. Do we even know why he liked her? It's never stated or hinted at in the show or in his character description. He just did...because reasons.

I think the fans are so enamored with him because he reminds them of Nabu. If they can't have their favorite wizard back, this little blond-haired wannabe will do just fine. Also, since they hate Nex, they feel like anyone's better than him.

Never mind that Roy and Aisha weren't compatible with each other at all, the fanbase didn't want them together at first, and their "relationship" was even more rushed than hers with Nabu.

And yes, having her and Nabu get engaged so soon after meeting was strange. Cute, but strange. It was no different than Daphne and Thoren.
