Appearance:
Looking at Oropher, one would have thought you ought to have seen his face plastered on magazines and posters- And there aren’t many who would deny that Oropher looks as one would expect the perfect gentleman to appear; his long dark hair is usually kept tied in a loose ponytail using an expensive silver clasp bearing an elegant engraving of a stag, his almond-shaped sea-grey eyes, a pale and flawless complexion and a well-toned, muscular physique. Who’s to deny that he certainly is something to look at?
But as handsome as he may appear, it’s not his name that’s associated with his appearance but that of Lir Blackwood. A name he has undertaken for two years now.
And behind the black hair dye, the blue contacts and the expensive clothing lies a much more humble young man. Oropher is remembered by those who knew him as a rather scrawny thing who had far too many ribs showing to look health. He had sand-coloured hair that was often styled as though a bird was nesting in it, pale freckled-skin and rather, dull hazel eyes that looked as though they had seen far too many years for his own good. It's needless to say that he goes by unrecognised by those who knew him from his childhood, but in Oropher's case that is far from a bad thing. In matter of fact, that is the last thing Oropher would want discovered.
His specialist outfit appears identical to the original outfit (Season 1) with a deep red clasp.
Strengths:
-
Courageous: Oropher has the courage to defy what is considered to be society's norms, to persevere through emotional and physical extremes without showing sign of giving up. And it is this trait that has seen him through most of his life and landed him where he is.
-
Quick Thinker: Oropher has a talent for being able to come up with solutions to problems on the spot. And whilst it ought not to be confused with intelligence, Oropher has an uncanny problem-solving ability.
-
Fast: It's never brute force but
speed which Oropher relies on to gain the upper hand in combat. He's proven himself amongst the fastest in his athletics class over the past two years with his proper training.
-
Resourceful: Though Oropher would never dream of becoming what he was 'destined' to be, he can't deny that he was always good at making things out of the resources he had available to him. Even if they were never very much. Particularly in an urban environment, Oropher can usually make-do with very little.
-
Good Liar: This is not always a particularly good trait to have, but in Oropher's rather peculiar situation it's one that is very strongly needed. And with time, he's become quite the expert on delivering a convincing lie.
Weaknesses:
-
Impatient: Waiting around for other people is not something Oropher has ever been good at. He finds it very hard to wait on others and has a tendency to become very irritable and edgy- often likely to lash out if he is forced to wait on others. As well as this, it means that he is very likely to pass up on opportunities that arise if he has to wait long periods of time to see them realised.
-
Physically Lacks Strength: As much as Oropher's physical strength has improved, it is still largely under that of the average fighter, let alone a specialist- lending Oropher an often large handicap in combat and training that he has to cover up for.
-
Short-sighted: As well as lacking the patience to make decisions, Oropher rarely takes the future consequences into account when making decisions. Often leading to regret- though Oropher wouldn't admit it.
-
Self-centred tendencies: Oropher is quick to disregard others and whilst he isn't completely selfish or self-indulgent, he has a bad habit of leaving out others when he's making decisions. This trait is one that interferes most with the virtue of justice- and should he step over the line and indulge himself just a little too much, it's possible that he starts disregarding his morality in favour of his own desires.
-
Apathetic: Oropher has been shown to disregard many of the desires of many others, often classifying them as rather petty or impractical- A trait which made him a little more than unlikeable with many of his classmates at school.
-
Pride: This is a trait he's only developed quite recently, but he cannot deny that the fame, his treatment and his achievements have made him quite a proud character now- unable to accept his mistakes or realise the ones he might be currently making.
Personality:
Ambition. Ambition and determination are the two traits which have led Oropher to where he is today. And it is his sense that he was meant for something more in life and his pursuit and struggle to realise his own dreams, no matter what everyone else told him, that has defined who he is. Few can deny the courage that Oropher has shown by defying all the odds and taking the leap he needed to. Doubtless many would attribute it as his greatest virtue- and no doubt an inspiring one if anyone knew his story.
However, it was never an easy road to get to where he is. And along with ambition, he has picked up several less desirable traits- namely a rather impatient and impulsive attitude. After all, Oropher never found that he could wait around for life to deal its hand- Oropher wanted control over his fate and as a result has very little patience to wait on someone else. He also tends to have a disregard for future consequences which (whilst he won’t admit it) has led to him regretting several things in his life.
Around others Oropher is
naturally not a particularly talkative person though he does enjoy being a part of conversations- feeling more relaxed in large groups. Not that he lacks any social skills, in fact he’s quite an articulate young man- it’s just that he finds little interest in gossip and the small unimportant deeds that most people seem to chat about. Furthermore contributing to his often reserved composure is a trait that Oropher has blamed many times on the way his parents brought him up and it is his lack of empathy. Oropher rarely shows anyone his true feelings and certainly is not one for compassion if you were to approach him with a problem. However, as emotionally-distant as he may be, Oropher is a just character and treats others with regards to their rights and needs- even if he doesn't always regard the desires of others. He is respectful and mindful of the law.
Though he isn’t Oropher anymore....
As Lir Blackwood, he’s a charmer, an intellect, athletic, commanding, dashing, rich, the kind of person that everyone wants to know. And whilst he may not be all these things, it’s deceiving everyone into believing that he is all of these things that is most important. With training, he has learnt the subtleties of conversation, fashion and etiquette, how to make an impression and become everything anyone would expect of a man engineered for perfection. He never spoke much before, but entertaining rich snobs seemed a small price to pay for his greatest dream to come true.
And not at all surprisingly, there’s little that Oropher misses about being himself and he now comfortably uses the name of Lir Blackwood wherever he goes. However push him too far and beneath all that pretence, one might find the ambitious, dedicated dreamer who won’t take no for an answer.
History:
Zenith has always been a place of technological advancement and for the county of New Gaia, the area has revolutionised genetics. Nowadays, a single drop of blood collected at birth can determine what job you would be best suited for, what kind of person you should date and even how you’re most likely to die. The test is called a Eugenn Test and every citizen of New Gaia is guaranteed to have had one.
This has led over time to the people of New Gaia having their entire lives determined before they can even begin to walk or talk. And for Oropher- expected to die aged 34 most probably of a heart failure, most likely to be a construction worker and without a suitable match- It seemed luck had never been in his favour from day one.
Most people told Oropher that he was at least lucky to have loving parents but it certainly didn’t feel as though they cared much to Oropher. He grew up in what he wasn't afraid to label as an insult to the word 'apartment'. But with a feeble, out-of-work father and a mother working as a replaceable programmer at a business company with the constant threat of salary cuts looming over her, it was about the best they could do.
Money was one thing that Oropher often found hard enough to make-do without, but getting attention was another matter all together. He soon grew used to talking to his parents whilst they had their faces glued to a computer screen and the feeling of disappointment that arose each time they promised to pick him up and never showed. At each occasion they gave him the excuse ‘
sorry, work’s been piling up’. But there’s only a certain number of times that Oropher would accept their apology before he grew sick and tired of it. And for someone like Oropher that did not take a very long time.
Oropher received a standard education from the age of 6 through to 11 at the lesser of the two primary schools in New Gaia City Centre. Aged 12, he was suggested to transfer to a Building and Mechanics youth college. Oropher protested fiercely, but nonetheless everyone carried on telling him that it was where he belonged and nothing could change that. He managed to convince his parents to allow him to stay in what was commonly known as ‘a mixer’s’ school where he was given permission to study a standard education for a further 2 more years before his parents told him he would have to study his trade and stop messing around.
During those two years, Oropher was never more desperate to seek a way out of what seemed to be the miserable destiny rolled out before him. He wouldn’t deny that he was good at building, but he knew that it wasn’t what he wanted to do for the rest of his life. No. Ever since Oropher was a young boy he had dreamed of becoming a specialist and learning the art of combat.
Oropher set to work changing his destiny and sent around countless e-mails to various institutes and even went door-to-door to many of the schools that excelled in combat- but as soon as they saw his identification, they refused him. Leaving him with the simple advice of ‘stick to what you were made for, kid’. And though Oropher had taught himself the basics he needed to enter, it wasn’t enough. His genes weren't built for a life of fighting.
But the young boy didn’t give up. Not yet.
And it seems to have finally paid off when he was asked to meet with the former Countess of New Gaia on the subject of joining one of the schools specialising in combat. When the two met Lady Elanor Blackwood informed Oropher that her eldest son Lir had abandoned the family, taking with him a large sum of money and several important belongings and run away to another planet where he cut off all connections to the Blackwood family and started dabbling in what Lady Elanor referred to as 'shady business'. It was safe to say, Oropher wasn’t quite sure what to make of it all, until she went on to explain what was at stake for the family’s reputation and the county of New Gaia. She revealed that nobody knew of what had happened- but she needed someone to take Lir’s place as Earl of New Gaia before anyone found out what happened.
Oropher at first, outright refused to impersonate some spoilt rich child- until he discovered that Lir had been offered a scholarship at the Ceraplex Youth College for Advanced Combat and had an almost guaranteed position at Red Fountain once he’d finished. Without a second thought, Oropher accepted the deal. Agreeing to leave behind his family and his life to take that of the young Earl.
The first thing to go was his appearance and with hair dye, contacts, skin treatments, a strict exercise routine and diet as well as a change of wardrobe- Oropher was no longer recognisable. Lady Elanor gave him etiquette lessons, taught him the Blackwood family history and taught him how to fit in with a higher class of people. She had her Master-at-Arms refine his sword-fighting skills and before Oropher knew it, he had become Lir Blackwood.
Soon after, he was being sent off to train at Ceraplex Youth College. He recognised a grand total of two students from his school in Lennix, whereas the rest of the children had been transferred from an elite school across the river- though Oropher made sure not to interact with anyone who might recognise him. After all, they were not the kind of people that an Earl would want anything to do with and he instead made friends with the boys and girls from the more influential families.
At the college, Oropher struggled at first with his grades and fighting with such a range of weapons- but with an unparalleled determination to prove everyone wrong about his decided fate, he eventually finished with outstanding grades and got his ticket into Red Fountain.
- Structure of New Gaia:
The county of New Gaia is a very much remote one on the planet of Zenith and is usually more than happy to be as independent as it can. The people are often noted for being quite protective over their findings and research and are often very reluctant to share it outside their own county. It is noted for advances in Genetics and the heart of the city is said to be at the huge genetics research lab by the river.
In terms of social structure, New Gaia has a very divided society- with a very poor region of the population living in what is starting to border on an almost slum-like region called the Malonar pits. It has a large portion of citizens identifying with the middle class and then several very privileged families housed most often on the West side of the river usually in or around the Blacwood Estate- the property and grounds of the governing Earl and Countess.
1.
Blackwood Estate - the home and grounds to the governing family of New Gaia and many other lesser nobles of the county. A force field guards it from intruders from the poorer regions of New Gaia.
2.
Berkswick Park - A large reserve that is most often used for private social events to the inhabitants of the Blackwood estate and other privileged guests.
3.
Mirabel Port - A picturesque port where many of the richer citizens can enjoy cruises and the like.
4.
City Hall5.
Palace of Justice6.
Genetics Research Lab - The centre of New Gaia's leading research and innovations to do with genetics. The workers are sworn to secrecy, but it's rumoured that many of them are working on techniques to allow parents to make an 'optimal' child... But only for those who can afford it.
7.
Gaiamore Power Plant - The main source of power for the county lies.
8.
Sutherland Stadium9.
Cerax Port - A docking area often referred to as the 'Poorman's Estate', being one of the nicer regions accessible to all of New Gaia's inhabitants unlike the more exclusive regions such as Blackwood Estate.
10.
Gateshead - A region dominated by skyscrapers, high-rise office buildings and the like. A region where many New Gaians travel to for work.
11.
Rotherford Centre - An industrial centre where many of the less privileged citizens have managed to pick up what work they can find.
12.
Malonar Pits - The most deprived of all the regions in New Gaia, home to what are commonly known as 'In-Valids'- people who have no potential and no hope of a good future. The pits are fenced off by an electric fence turned on during the night.
13.
Merewood Community - A suburban residential community where many of the middle-class citizens live.
14.
Freefore Park15.
Greenhouse Country - Source of most of the County's food.
