First topic message reminder :Hi guys.
As some of you have already noticed, the signature size rule is probably the one the forum members disrespect the most. A good share of the forum members have their signatures above the maximum limits. The maximum width limit is 640 pixles and the maximum height limit is 360 pixels. Please note that this also includes the
text in your signature. Meaning, (and take this as an example) if you have an image in your signature that's 620 px wide and 340 px tall and you want to add text to your signature, then the height and width of said text cannot exceed 20 width and 20 height to make sure your signature doesn't exceed the forum limits.
Everyone whose signature exceeds the limit will be sent a message as soon as a moderator checks if it crosses the limits or not.
We won't be sending out warnings for the duration of a week, these messages are just for you to have an idea if you have to make changes or not.
Also, a question you might ask is about using spoilers. Do they count for the size limit?
No. So basically, if you have a big image that you want to use as your signature, there's only 2 things you can do:
put it in a spoiler or
resize it.
But how can you make sure your signature isn't breaking the rules?
There's a program called
Snipping Tool in your computer. It's a pre-installed application in Windows 7 and 8 that allows you to capture a screenshot, crop it and save it in your desired location. Once that is done, right click your image, select "
Properties", and then click on "
Details". Once you've done that, look for the option "
Dimensions" and check the height and width of the signature. If your computer does not have this tool, take a screenshot, open your image editing program, crop your signature and then check the canvas size (or save it and check the file properties, as explained above). If it's under 640x360, congrats! You're good to go.
Of course, things become much easier if you don't have text. In case you made the signature yourself, make sure that the canvas dimension is under 640x360. If you didn't do it, you may want to check if you're not breaking the rules by using it. So all you have to do is right click the image in your browser and choose
'Open image in a new tab'. A new tab will popup, and its title will be something like this:
(name of the file).png (w x h)
In which w is the width and h is the height. Example:
If you didn't make your signature, and it is over the size limit, then there's an easy way to resize it, without using any complicated software. The forum has a resizing tool that can be used by every member. In order to use it, click on the 'Insert an image', button (highlighted on the image below).
Then a small window will appear.
In 'width' and 'height', you can enter the size you want your signature to be. For example, you have a signature that's 640x360 (height exceeds the limit by 20 pixels). You can go to the resizer and type in 640 for the width and 360 for the height. The forum will then resize your image for you.
And that's it!
