First topic message reminder :Remember when we had some pretty dominent shows back in the day? Perhaps on 4Kids, that light wasn't as bright as other networks. But for what it's worth, 4KidsTV went through many changes and the program had abruptly been going downhill. I can't believe 10 years have gone by since FoxBox had started. As we all already know now, 4Kids Entertainment is a dying company. Most dub groups that are still around are Funimation. But let's get to what I'm retrospecting:
Back in 2002, the FoxBox was a Saturday morning program with many classic/modern shows for kids. We all remember Sonic X, Kirby, TMNT; those shows were hard hitters. Winx Club was also an original program on this block before the huge revamp; one that we're all familiar with.
Yup; in 2005, 4KidsTV was the newly named Saturday morning block. With the same shows we started with, and with many new ones that are born; Mew Mew Power, One Piece, Magical DoReMi and more. This, in ones own opinion, was the peak of the Saturday block. Many good shows, and simply a great time.
That magic died off a bit though, when some shows ended and fewer shows were left; this went on in later 2006 and 2007. In 2007, 4KidsTV kept it name, but was re-branded as "The Game Station" in the title. Lots of content was divided between TV and online. That trend happened before, but it was greatly encouraged with the new name. At least some shows were still going on, but online. There's a lot of internet use for 4Kids in this time frame.
Once again, in 2008, 4Kids was on it's last legs and left the TV broadcast. During the same year, a new TV block aired on the CW, named the CW4Kids. Both programs aired, but ultimately it was 4KidsTV: The Game Station that left the broadcast line.
Then later, older shows continued to air on The CW4Kids, as the current new place for Saturday cartoons. This went on for a few more years, until yet another change came in. Toonzai. In 2010, The CW4Kids was beginning to die down, and a new brand name "Toonzai" was born, succeeding the former name. Same shows in rotation, new website, and repeated cycle. This went on for another two year, into 2012. That is where another line was drawn.
Toonzai was declared discontinued in late 2012, with yet another name following. The "Vortexx", now started in 2012. Just like you imagined, it's the same stuff, but with newer shows that began in the CW4Kids. New website, and no trace of the name "4KidsTV".
------------------------
Well, that was a little history journey for ya. Can you believe how much our favorite block went through? Even switching networks, different names, and no continuation of the name we all know and love. Especially when our dear show, "Winx Club", started on this block internationally.
If all that was too long to read, here's a short recap:
FoxBox (2002-2005)
4KidsTV (2005-2008)
4KIDSTV: The Game Station (2007-2008)
The CW4Kids (2008-2010)
Toonzai (2010-2012)
Vortexx (2012-present)
Honestly, today, there isn't a lot of demand for Saturday morning blocks. At least, from what I try to observe. It's too bad to see that this is turning out to be a thing of the past. But I much prefer it that way, instead of trying to keep something alive when it's at a weak point in it's time.
What do you guys think about 4Kids Entertainment as a whole? Do you admire what they have done for the many years? FoxBox started 10 years ago, and look at where we are now.
For me, I can't express how thankful I am of 4Kids for the shows they put on air; they're some of my favorite and I would not have enjoyed them without 4KidsTV. For some reason, I feel like every time they re-brand a new logo and title, after 4Kids, they're ripping apart my childhood piece by piece.
