Sora, Fairy of the Wild Winds Empty
PostSubject: Sora, Fairy of the Wild Winds   Sora, Fairy of the Wild Winds Eo1pl7YThu Jun 04, 2015 9:23 am

Name: Sora Jaswinder
Age: 16
Gender: Female
Creature: Fairy
Race: Jules
Allegiance: Good
Origins: Magic User
Powers: Wind
Spells:
Chaotic Winds: Sora can manipulate the current winds and generate new ones. Non-damaging. Intensity: Weak
Static Charge: Sora passively generates static electricity over time, especially when excited. She can use this to add weak electrical effects to her attacks or discharge completely, the power of which ranges from harmless sparks to a nasty shock (stronger than a normal static shock, but not electrocution, maybe a little painful, but more annoying an no lasting effect). Sora carries a device on her left hip that allows her to discharge this energy safely so that she can interact with electrical items without problems. Intensity: Low
Wirlwind: Sora whips the winds into a vortex, causing a strong wind in the area that gets stronger the closer to the vortex you are. She can direct the vortex in one initial direction, but changing direction after that requires more effort. By spending more time, she can create a larger, more powerful vortex. The spell lasts as long as Sora concentrates on it. After her concentration is broken, the vortex will dissipate in 3-10 seconds. Intensity: High
Wind Sphere: Sora builds up a sphere of raging wind and throws it at her target, sometimes adding her static charge. Intensity:  Medium
Razor Wind: Sora compresses and shapes air into several thin, chakram-like form that she then flings or shoots. Intensity: Medium
Air Sword: Similar to Razor Wind, Sora compresses air into a thin blade that she holds close to her body. She can then use this as a close-ranged physical attack. Intensity: High
Windmill: Sora spins to create a vortex around her, forming a defensive barrier of strong winds that can prevent others from coming closer. Intensity: Low
Air Blast: Sora takes a deep breath, and then uses her magic to propel a shot of exhaled air at her target. Intensity: Medium

Appearance:
Sora has a short, swept back hairstyle with long bangs parted to the side. Two pieces of longer hair fall in front of her ears. A natural blond, Sora has been dyeing her hair violet since she was 12. She has fair skin and her blue eyes are almost always full of energy. She has a shorter, but athletic build, developed from her years of storm riding. Sora typically wears blue and yellow clothing, and her normal wear consists of dark purple pants, a blue t-shirt, and a yellow jacket. She usually has a bronze cuff on her right hand and wears a small device on her left hip. This device is used to discharge the weak static electricity that she generates to prevent it from causing trouble during her everyday activities. She is rarely seen wearing dress shoes, opting for running shoes or boots.

Strengths: Sora is very agile and quick, a trait she uses in her battle style.  With the ability to generate static, she is used to electric shocks and is possesses some resistance to lightning magic. She is capable of pushing herself physically and mentally to her limit due to a strong will and determination. She is an excellent flier, having spent most of her pre-magic days in the air storm riding. She is capable of beating out more experienced fairies in her flying maneuverability and speed. She is decent at figuring out how thing work, especially if they are mechanical, but this applies to reverse-engineering an item; she isn’t the best at putting it back together.

Weaknesses: Being a new magic user, Sora isn’t the best at magic.Sora is weak defensively, opting for evasiveness and attack. As someone always on the go, Sora is prone to burnouts, as she finds it very hard to sit still and rest. She is easily excited, which can be used against her, especially as a distraction. She is prideful, and is easily instigated when her integrity, word, or physical ability is being challenged.

Personality: She is very determined, and is capable of pushing herself to her absolute limit on many activities, and is known to have once ran for so long that she literally passed out. But with determination also comes with stubbornness, and Sora possesses both. It’s very hard to dissuade her from her current plan or objective without good reason. She is easily excited, and is best described as “intense.” She can be overbearing at times, rushing through things and making herself heard. She is terrible at multitasking, and will hyperfocus on each thing before moving onto the next. This leads to her often cutting people off. She is a bit arrogant, but also honest, so when she boasts, it is justified in her eyes because she earned it. Though she tends to be a bit too much for people to handle, she is social and friendly, but possesses few  true friends.

History:
Sora grew up in Vernes on the planet Jules. Born to a professor, Katherine, and an inventor, Thomas, Sora spent her times equally around books and machinery. As she grew older, she drew away from the dusty libraries that her mother surrounded herself in, and began exploring the world. At seven, she began to wander from the house into the city by herself. Her mother and father punished her accordingly by having her help work in her father’s workshop, but her spirit of adventure could not be contained, and eventually they agreed to allow her to wander, given a strict set of rules and boundaries. Sora was all too ready to push these, and gained a reputation as a trouble maker.  When she was eleven, she found her passion: storm riding.

The planet of Jules is known for its near-constant lightning storms. The floating city of Vernes serves to protect the Great Wilds below from the fierce storms. The lightning serves as the city’s power source, and is collected by a designated workforce, but some people, called “Thunder Thieves” work as contractors to the electric companies, providing their own equipment and airships, capturing the lightning, and selling it to the power companies. From this, an extreme sport of storm riding, or “lightning surfing” was derived. Instead of airships, performers stand on a floating platform that is powered by electricity. Participants start out with a partially charged power pack to get them off the ground, but they are then responsible for producing their own power by capturing lightning using conductive wands. They are then able to use the energy to ride the air currents generated by the storm that they are riding through, performing tricks and other crazy stunts.

Sora discovered this sport after staying with her uncle, Nikolas, a Thunder Thief, who lives near the airshipyards where the storm riders practice. She was immediately enthralled by the exhilarating performances, and began to save up money to buy her own storm board and equipment. Her uncle did not approve of the idea, but like other times before, this didn’t stop her. Realizing that his niece was going to try this risky sport using cheap equipment, Sora’s uncle provided her with her first powerpack and conducting wand, allowing her to spend her entire fund on a mid-ranged storm board. Although she was the youngest of the storm riders, she caught on quickly, snuck out to meet for practices, and continued to disobey her parents in pursuit of the thrill and sense of adventure she got from storm riding. She quickly developed the skills required, and within two years, she had become one of the best storm riders of Verne, capable of performing advanced stunts and maneuvers, and generating a decent profit from the leftover energy she harvested.

Over the years of storm riding, Sora developed the ability to subconsciously alter the air currents that she rode on, aiding her in her riding. Her proximity to the strong electric forces also played a part in her magical development. Shortly before turning fifteen, Sora began to generate her static charge. It started out harmless enough, but it became apparent that she possessed the strongest charge after finishing an exhilarating storm riding session. Concerned for her safety, her parents grounded for a week. Towards the end of the week, while working in her father’s workshop, Sora had an accident with one of the gadgets. As she was operating it, she shorted the circuit board with an electric shock. Although unusual, both her and her father passed it off as an accident and nothing more. Her mother, having coworkers at the university who were magic users, was not convinced of this and sensed it might be more important.

Sora’s mother’s suspicions were confirmed after a nearly fatal storm riding accident. A strong storm had formed just outside Vernes. Although the Thunder Thieves were setting out to make a catch, storm boards were too small and weak to navigate the raging winds. This didn’t stop the storm riders from meeting up at the air docks to watch the storm. A scuffle broke out between Sora’s team and a rival storm rider gang. Each team talked up their skills, making over-the-top claims. Sora joined in, boldly proclaiming, “I bet you I could ride this storm out and fill my power pack with a single catch.”

The leader of the rival gang challenged her to prove her claim, betting his board against hers. At advanced levels, a rider’s storm board was the product of several years’ worth of alterations, tinkering, and practice that had led to a custom build perfection. A riders’ board was their most prized possession and a symbol of their skill. Sora strapped on her power pack, holstered her conducting wands, and put on her storm riding gear. Her team tried to talk her out of it; she wasn’t obligated to accept the rival’s offer. But this was more about her pride, and she was going to defend it. With a solemn  nod to her teammates, she kicked off towards the storm.

She had underestimated the sheer power of the winds generated by the storm. The currents were more turbulent than she had ever experienced, but she had a mission. She headed towards the heart of the storm, dodging lightning strikes. Finally, she pulled out her conducting wand.

She was right. She did fill her power pack with one catch. In fact, a flurry of strikes hit her wand, overloading the pack. Without a power source, Sora and her board began to fall. She plummeted out of the storm clouds, falling towards the Great Wilds below. She knew she was going to die, but Sora wasn’t one to give up. Again and again she tried to right herself on the board, try to position herself to slow her descent and maybe hit the winds at just the right angle. Finally, in an act of desperation, she willed the winds to change instead. Against all odds, an impossibly strong updraft caught her, slowing her descent to a stop and allowing her to hover in place as long as she concentrated on the winds blowing from below.  An airship soon rescued her, piloted by her uncle. Badly shaken from the events, Sora began to cry, but was able to pull herself together as the docked. She stood up, and stepped off the ship with her uncle. Her teammates nearly knocked her over, hugging her, making sure she was alright. As she left the docks, she locked eyes with her rival and smirked, thinking about how nice his board was gonna look hanging over her bed.

Once home, she attempted to explain what had happened to her uncle, father, and mother. Her mother supported her conclusion, Sora had indeed controlled the winds. Katherine explained her suspicion, and that she had been  talking with a co-worker about what to do. She hired a tutor to train Sora in magic use, but after a year, it was evident that Jules would not have the best education for her. Her capabilities were beyond what Vernes University could provide for.

About a year after discovering her abilities, Sora snuck out one night with her gang to snoop around the University. Periodically, they would go out at night to creepy places in the city, taking turns finding and preparing a location. They would then spend the night walking around, telling ghost stories and doing their best to scare one another. That night it was Sora's turn, and she had chosen to explore the Verne University's science building. She knew one of the outer doors was kept unlocked after hours to allow faculty to enter and work late at night, and she had a lockpicking set to get through any doors that might hinder their way once inside. Dusty, long-unused offices, empty lecture halls, and abandoned labs were explored until the gang found a lab on the top floor of the astronomy tower. It was clean, and journals lay open on the tables, a sure sign that the room was used daily. A panel with complicated controls was next to a glass and bronze chamber of sorts in the center of the room.

Sora and her gang flipped through the journals, taking care not to lose the current page. Although the concepts were complicated and the language was too technical for them to comprehend completely, it was evident that the machine was some sort of communication device. One of the snooping teens took a shot at scaring the group, saying that he had heard that a mad scientist lived at the university, holed away in his tower, and built a torture device that he used to kill students who didn't pass his classes.

Sora couldn't help but laugh at the attempt, though it had unsettled a few of the other teens. The group spent a bit of time examining the machine, until someone dared her to hop inside. The glass door shut behind her, locking her into the chamber. Sora panicked and began banging on the glass, shouting to let her out. Realizing the door couldn't be forced open, and unwilling to face the consequences of being caught breaking into locked laboratories at night, Sora's best friend turned to the control panel, turning knobs and pushing one button at a time to see if he could find the one that would release her. He never found the right one, and instead managed to activate the machine. The pistons began to pump, and steam filled the lab as the machine went to work. With a flash of light, Sora had disappeared and was sent racing through space to some other planet.

((My apologies for the long history. I didn't expect it to be that long ^^' Also I asked for permission to use the electricity aspects of my power in the role playing questions board.))

So far the only two things I can pick out that need to be fixed are, change the weak to low and please take the dialogue out of the history, since as kyra would say, this isn't a fanfic.

three of the five need to approve of the character. There is one tiny issue with the history that I need to address. People from Jule mostly think there is no life outside their planet, so who does she get off world? They only just learned of Alfea through Artemis' communications but that's with those in authority, so does her mother do something to get her off planet and to the school?

This strength is unneeded:
Quote :
She is capable of beating out more experienced fairies in her flying maneuverability and speed.
Because all her other strengths can easily allow her to achieve the following goal, so it doesn't really count as a strength. You're left with 4 strengths and 5 weaknesses, which is acceptable, unless you'd like to add a 5th strength. The choice is yours.

Was not aware of that bit of history of Jule. I read that there is a department for magic users at the university in Vernes, so I assumed it had communication with the other magic schools. I'm trying to view some of Potitius' posts, but their all hidden because she's banned.

Sora's mother is a respected professor at the university. Would it be possible to have her be the head of the Astronomy and Meteorology department? Or the physics department? Either way, I'll say she was part of a project that was developing a device that could see through the storm clouds, and through that, they developed a communication device.

Was Jules just unknown to the rest of the magic dimension? Or did no one bother with it/didn't know there was life on it?

That was a clarification of her flying abilities, but I'll delete if you fell its too redundant. I'm okay with having more weaknesses that strengths at this point. It'll take a little bit before I get a better feel for her as a character, so I'll likely add more to her sheet as time goes on, making sure to keep the strengths and weaknesses balanced.

The rest of the magic dimension saw Jule as a dead world, cuz of the storms that raged upon it and what not. I think it would very possible to have be in charge of one of those departments. It's possible that Sora could arrive at Alfea the same way Artemis did.

Read some more on Artemis' history. Gonna have Sora's mom be the head of the physics department, and had knowledge of the experiment/communication device that Artemis used to transport to Magix. She was able to increase funding for the project, creating a more precise machine, and through it, a communication was set up with the magical dimension. Although it's still in its early stages, Sora was sent through it in order to study at alfea.

I've edited Sora's history to reflect this.

Well basic communications was just established so their reply could be a repeat of the experiment that sent Artemis there with Sora.

PostSubject: Re: Sora, Fairy of the Wild Winds   Sora, Fairy of the Wild Winds Eo1pl7YFri Jun 05, 2015 12:53 am

Logic and believably seems a bit fuzzy with that though. Artemis was sent by accident. The first few people to be sent after her would probably be animals and well qualified individuals, neither of which Sora fits in. Sneaking in to use the machine seems too out-of-character for Sora. She likes to explore and can seem reckless, but I can't imagine any character stepping into an untested machine in order to be transported to some entirely unknown other world that they know absolutely nothing about. I guess I could say that she was exploring the empty lab and looking around and accidentally set off the machine, but that seems like an obvious cop-out, lacks believability, and relies on too many coincidences. I'll try to think of something else, but I may use this as a last resort if I can't find a way around it...
