For those of you that don't know what it is, it's a series of video games that were made as spinoffs to Harvest Moon. You have a farm, grow crops, live in a town, raise your love/friendship points with people, fight monsters, and go through the plotline. I made it sound kinda boring... but it's more fun than that, lol.
ive never herd of it
but i played harvest moon which i love so i might have to check it out what would you say is the best game to start at? it sounds intresting!!
Hmm... depends which system you have! They make Rune Factory 1, 2, and 3 for the DS, and Frontier and Tides of Destiny for the Wii, and then Tides of Destiny again for the PS3.
Each game has a gimmick though, so watch out for those. If one sounds absolutely terrible to you, skip it.
Rune Factory 1: The only one without a gimmick.
Rune Factory 2: Once you finish playing as Kyle, you play as his kid.
Rune Factory 3: Your player character is half-monster.
Rune Factory Frontier: The runey system.
Rune Factory Oceans: Golem exploration.
Rune Factory 4: Some of the bachelors/bachelorettes are half-monster.
I'd say if you want a DS one go for 3. The girls are a little quirky, but it has the best fighting system (the others are really clunky) and it's not so hard you just wanna give up, but not easy at the same time. The map isn't too bad either.
1 wasn't particularly bad but it was extremely hard and the battle system was really messy. I wouldn't recommend it as your first one. The bachelorettes were also kind of boring.
2 wasn't bad at all, but once you finished playing as Kyle and you moved onto his kid the game got extremely hard.
If you want a Wii one go for Tides of Destiny. While I really enjoy Frontier, it has a system called the Runey system-- which is the worst thing ever invented. There are basically a bunch of spirits hanging around in the air and it's your job to maintain them, but it's about 10x harder than it sounds. If you don't believe me, google the Runey System. It's the main reason that game is disliked by most fans.
Tides of Destiny on the other hand has the best fighting system out of any Rune Factory game. The story is really long, but it's not extremely hard so it's generally pretty fun. It's also the only one out right now that you can play as a girl in-- (well, you can in 2 as well, but only when you have a kid) though you have to play through the story as a boy before you can. You'll see why when you start it, it has to do with the plot.
They're also coming out with Rune Factory 4 this July for the 3DS. I can't judge it yet though since it's not out and I haven't played it.
You can be a girl from the start in it though!
